Valentina Shevchenko's Coach Provides Injury Update Following Title Vacancy
Valentina Shevchenko's coach has shed light on her condition after the fighter was compelled to relinquish her UFC women's flyweight championship.
Shevchenko has been withdrawn from her scheduled UFC 332 title bout against Natalia Silva due to an injury. Consequently, she will be vacating the championship. Wang Cong is set to replace her and will compete for the vacant title next month.
Shevchenko has had a significant career with the promotion. While the overall quality of the UFC 332 card may not have generated widespread excitement, her absence from competition represents a considerable blow.
In a recent interview, Shevchenko's coach, Pavel Fedotov, discussed her recovery and future plans.
Coach Fedotov Details Shevchenko's Injuries
Fedotov explained, "We were slated to fight Natalia Silva on October 3rd, but due to an injury affecting her shoulder ligaments and back, we opted against pushing through and decided to postpone the fight."
He continued, "Considering that the recovery process is expected to be lengthy, we have made the decision to temporarily vacate the belt. She will aim to reclaim it once she has fully recovered."
Injuries are an inherent part of mixed martial arts. However, at this juncture in her career, this presents a notable setback for Shevchenko. Regardless of future outcomes before her eventual retirement, her status as one of the all-time greatest female fighters is undeniable. For now, her focus must be on recovery and observing the division's developments over the coming year.
